Tree Planting Day
The Oku Community in North West Cameroon is joining forces with the Traditional Authority of Oku and other local organizations, including SOPISDEW Cameroon, Ruderg-Cameroon, Mount Oku Center for Gender and Socioeconomic Empowerment, OKU IN FOCUS, Camgew Cameroon, and Camgew Oku Rural Radio FM 94.0 MHz, to plant native trees in the Kilum-Ijim Mountain Forest. The project is being implemented with financial assistance from the Oku Cultural and Development Association - OCDA USA through the "Our Green Inheritance" initiative.
The first tree planting event took place on August 26, 2023. Hundreds of community members participated in the event, including men, women, boys, girls, and children. The trees that were planted include Prunus africanna, a native tree that is important for forest regeneration and wildlife habitat.
The tree planting project is a welcome initiative that will benefit the Oku Community and the Kilum-Ijim Mountain Forest. It is a testament to the commitment of the local community and its partners to protecting their environment.
